Eintracht defeated SC Freiburg 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from substitute Chaibi and Bahoya.

Four changesHead coach Albert Riera made four changes to the side from last weekend’s match at Bayern Munich. Fit-again Robin Koch returned to the starting line-up, while Jonathan Burkardt, Mario Götze and Arnaud Kalimuendo were also recalled. Ellyes Skhiri, Ritsu Doan, Mo Dahoud and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab dropped to the bench.Early goalkeeper switchKaua Santos was injured in a collision with Igor Matanovic in just the second minute, with Michael Zetterer replacing the Brazilian in goal. The Eagles attacked from a solid defence and, after an even opening phase, were the more threatening side.

Chance for Brown The first real chance for Eintracht followed in the 23rd minute, when Nathaniel Brown took aim at the left corner from 18 metres, but Noah Atubolu saved well and also foiled Burkardt’s follow-up.Five minutes later, Götze passed to Kalimuendo, who got the better of Christian Günter on the right side but couldn’t beat the impressive Freiburg goalkeeper with his shot.Let-off for Frankfurt  Eintracht were fortunate not to concede just before half-time, when Matanovic beat Koch in the air from Günter’s cross and struck the right post from close range. It therefore remained goalless at the break.

Zetterer shinesWith 49 minutes gone, the ball came to Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo in the penalty area, but Zetterer parried the goal-bound effort well to prevent the visitors from breaking the deadlock.Instant impact from ChaibiRiera brought on fresh legs in the 64th minute in the form of Farès Chaibi and Doan for Götze and Oscar Højlund, and it paid off straight away. Nnamdi Collins found Chaibi in the box, and he found the net just 44 seconds after coming on with a low shot into the right corner.

Bahoya seals it Chaibi then turned provider in the 81st minute, setting up Jean-Matteo Bahoya to lift the ball delightfully into the far corner. That decided the contest at Deutsche Bank Park, with Zetterer denying Derry Scherhant near the end to preserve his clean sheet and Atubolo saving from Kalimuendo again at the other end.The victory sees Eintracht move above Freiburg into seventh place and earns them an important three points in the battle for the European places.
