FC Barcelona heads into a decisive stretch of the season with mounting concerns in the medical room. Recently knocked out of the Copa del Rey, the Catalans must now focus their attention on La Liga and the Champions League, where a crucial showdown against Newcastle awaits. But just days before this European clash, Hansi Flick is forced to deal with an ever-growing list of injuries.

The semi-final against Atlético Madrid left its mark. Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde were both forced off the pitch early after feeling muscle pain. These new setbacks add to the already known absences of Gavi, Andreas Christensen, and Frenkie de Jong, while Robert Lewandowski has only just returned from a physical issue. This situation has clearly frustrated the German coach, who appears increasingly concerned by the injury crisis.

Speaking to the media, Flick did not hide his frustration:

“We have two more injuries and I am not happy. We need to talk. Because with Frenkie, that makes three already. We have to talk with the medical team, with the staff, to avoid having three players get injured in a single week.”

In this tense context, Barcelona will have to face their European duel with Newcastle with a significantly depleted squad.
