Liam Twomey has written a really interesting piece about Liam Rosenior, who is becoming a figure of fun for those outside Stamford Bridge, and looks to have potentially lost the dressing room too.

The Athletic writer compares BlueCo’s manager appointments to those of Roman Abramovich.

Champions League winners vs. Premier League debutants

“Prizing potential over proven pedigree is nothing new for this Chelsea ownership, but the contrast with what preceded them remains startling,” Twomey wrote.

“During his 19-year tenure, Abramovich appointed three different coaches who were already Champions League winners. Three of BlueCo’s four Chelsea head coach hires had never even coached a game in the competition until they stood in the Stamford Bridge home dugout.”

Of course appointing a Champions League winner doesn’t guarantee much – but it does mean the coach has a certain base level of authority and gravitas. The players are bound to respect their medals, if nothing else.

With Rosenior, it feels like he’s lost the players’ belief, and has nothing to fall back on to show he deserves it.

In other news…

The defence of Chelsea’s sporting directors is that some wastage is inevitable at a big club. But there’s been a lot more than you’d hope.

Josh Acheampong continues to be linked with moves away from Chelsea, with a major European giant now in the mix to try and sign up the defender.
