Niamh Charles is confident City will want to reach evening loftier heights on the back of winning the Double last season.
The England international has signed a three-year deal with Andrée Jeglertz’s side which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2029.
It follows an illustrious six years at Chelsea where she helped the Londoners to 13 major honours, including five Barclays Women’s Super League titles.
Following the acquisition of Beth Mead, she arrives at the Blues after we completed an English top-flight and FA Cup double for the first time in our history.
And Charles’ is relishing the opportunity to her City achieve even more in the coming years upon her arrival in Manchester.
“It’s so exciting and I think the girls have experienced it, but once you win one, you want to win it even more and you want to do it every year, bigger and better,” she declared.
“I’m really excited that the girls have been really successful this year and hopefully [we can] build on that next year. Hopefully become a little winning machine.
“Obviously I’ve experienced that at Chelsea, the consistency year on year. From the outside, I’ve felt elements of that here and that’s something that excites me about this team.
“It’s that it doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s the consistent things day to day in training at the start of the season that pay off at the end of the season. Having the experience of being in there and not quite doing it, keeping that core group together you learn lessons so you’re more prepared next time.
“Hopefully this team is in a really good position for the next few years, that they know each other really well and are really connected. And in the big moments they can produce.
“But I think that comes from all the little things and for a lot of time spent on the training pitch and off the pitch working on things.”
After operating as a forward during her early career at Liverpool, Charles grasped the opportunity to play full-back with both hands during her maiden term at Chelsea in 2020/21.
She hasn’t looked back since and has since established herself as one of the game’s finest modern full-backs.
An all-action defender with excellent ability in forward areas, the 27-year-old is aiming to play an important role at both end of the pitch over the next three seasons.
She added: “I’m an attacking full-back and I’ll hopefully bring lots of energy going forward and also defending, defending well with the team.
“Hopefully I can provide the energy on the flanks, combine with players, get some good connections and contribute defensively, but also in attack.”
