Leeds United could bank a seven-figure windfall if Charlie Cresswell completes a move from Toulouse to Rennes, thanks to a sell-on clause on profits.

According to Footmercato, Rennes are close to agreeing a €25m deal plus €3m in add-ons for the 23-year-old, and have offered him a lucrative salary. The Ligue 1 side finished sixth last season, securing Europa League football. The move has been described as a major summer coup.

Cresswell joined Toulouse from Leeds in July 2024 for £3.8m after struggling for minutes under Daniel Farke, signing a four-year contract. He has since established himself as a regular starter.

The defender has made 60 Ligue 1 appearances across two seasons and scored six goals. Interest has followed from the Premier League and Italy.

If an initial £21.4m is paid, Toulouse would make a £17.6m profit, of which 15 per cent would go to Elland Road, around £2.64m. That would take Leeds’ total return on Cresswell to about £6.45m.

There remains work to do before he becomes a Rennes player.

Leeds took a similar stance when selling Pascal Struijk to Brighton last month in a deal understood to be worth £20m in total. A sell-on clause was also included, although its value has not been disclosed.
