Barring the Covid stadium closures, Daw attended 1,986 Wolves matches in succession. The run began with a 4-1 defeat at Bolton in 1985 and ended with a 1-1 draw at Everton on January 7th, contributing to an overall tally of 2,576 since 1967.

In the previous 10 years he missed only seven games, mainly while following the World Speedway Finals. Fellow devotee Peter Abbott, who has missed just one game in almost 50 years, recalled his constant smile, beer in one hand and a betting slip in the other.

Steve Bishop had led the appearance streak before missing the Europa League trip to Besiktas, after which Daw was widely regarded as number one. Away from football, he and his wife Jo visited all 59 UK racecourses during 21 years together after meeting in a bookmakers.

He captained the team at the Moreton Arms and ran the Tettenhall Darts League, which will continue in his memory. Family was central, with two children and four stepchildren, six grandchildren and another due in April, and Jo sat beside him as a season-ticket holder for about 15 years.
