According to L'Équipe, Charlotte FC have opened negotiations to sign Allan Saint-Maximin, whom RC Lens are keen to keep.

Lens handed him a deal until the end of the season in early February after his exit from Club América, and he seized the chance with four goals and three assists in 13 matches, helping their Coupe de France triumph. Some American sources suggest an agreement with Charlotte is close, though Lens sources have not confirmed that at this stage.

The 29-year-old’s next move in Artois remains uncertain.

Sporting director Jean-Louis Leca, who drove his return, has made clear he wants to extend his stay, yet interest in the winger is strong.

Charlotte intend to make him a designated player, a status that allows salary beyond the salary cap, in place of Ivorian Wilfried Zaha.
