The Addicks have added nine new faces to their ranks this summer, and despite a perfect three wins out of three Championship fixtures, there is seemingly still room for Nathan Jones to bolster his squad ahead of the 11pm deadline.

A move for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi collapsed last week owing to agent demands, but it's a midfielder that is now on the club's radar in the final hours of the window.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Charlton are making a late loan move for Leicester City midfielder Oliver Skipp, who has suffered back-to-back relegations with the Foxes from the Premier League into League One.

City spent the best part of £20 million on then-Tottenham player Skipp in the summer of 2024, and has played 58 times in the league for the East Midlands outfit since his move there, but it has been an unsuccessful time at the King Power Stadium.

Skipp had another low moment last weekend when Leicester were defeated by Burton Albion in League One action, and he was sent off in the first half for a rash tackle.

Despite his misfortunes, the 25-year-old is still being lined up for a potential Championship move, with league leaders Charlton 'interested' in bringing Skipp back to London.

Sky Sports claim that Skipp himself is interested in the move, but there's still plenty of work to be done if it's going to be a done deal before the window slams shut at 11pm.

Oliver Skipp deal could go down to the wire thanks to two stumbling blocks

A new midfielder is perhaps a bit of a surprise for Charlton, especially when it's a right-winger that is apparently more of a pressing need at The Valley.

With Nathaniel Chalobah going down injured though against Preston, Nathan Jones has perhaps had to pivot and look at reinforcement in the engine room to compete with Conor Coventry, Greg Docherty and up and coming youngster Alan Mwamba.

Skipp is likely going to be on big wages at Leicester despite two relegations in a row, and that - as well as Leicester potentially needing a replacement - could prove to be two big stumbling blocks when it comes to getting a deal done.

But Charlton are at least trying to make something happen, and for all his recent shortcomings in the past two years, Skipp still has Championship-level quality that the Addicks are trying to get something out of.
