Charlton Athletic have completed the permanent signing of Hearts defender Lizzie Waldie.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 25-year-old defender has signed an initial 18-month deal with the South East Londoners.

Waldie has spent the last two-and-a-half years in Edinburgh with Hearts. She helped the club to further establish themselves in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) whilst also reaching a first Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup final.

Prior to her spell north of the border, Waldie spent a period with Crystal Palace.  She enjoyed many passionate derby affairs against Charlton Athletic and was a regular in the Crystal Palace side.

Waldie has plenty of Barclays WSL2 know-how and she will be hoping to help new club Charlton Athletic maintain their promotion push.

After joining The Addicks, Waldie said “I’m very happy to be joining Charlton. WSL2 is a super-competitive league and it’s a really exciting time to be a part of this club, I can’t wait to get started.”

Waldie is Charlton Athletic’s second signing of the January transfer window. She could make her debut in this weekend’s Barclays WSL2 fixture at Ipswich Town should the game go ahead.
