Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is closing in on a permanent return to Charlton Athletic from Crystal Palace, having spent 2022/23 on loan at The Valley in League One.

Since that outstanding loan with Charlton Athletic in 2022/23, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has struggled to find the same consistency. He earned both their Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year awards, before returning to Crystal Palace.

He then impressed again with seven goals in 36 appearances for Sheffield United in 2024/25, but another permanent breakthrough at Palace remained elusive. The following campaign brought loan spells with Caykur Rizespor and Stoke City, producing four goals in Turkey before he returned to England.

The now 23-year-old needs a permanent home but the winger has shown enough promise to remain as an intriguing talent, but his career since Charlton has been defined by inconsistency and somewhat frustrating loan moves rather than establishing himself at Premier League level.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Burnley and Wrexham were keen on acquiring Rak-Sakyi recently, while other Championship clubs have been tipped to have interest.

Cardiff City, Norwich City, and Preston North End have been backed to get Rak-Sakyi, but it appears as though Chartlon are now bringing the wide forward in permanently from Selhurst Park.

Rak-Sakyi is believed to be at Charlton's training ground today to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork on his contract after loans with Stoke and Sheffield United in recent years.

A permanent return to Charlton could arguably be the best thing for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. The winger was born in Southwark and previously thrived at The Valley, producing 15 goals and eight assists during his outstanding 2022/23 loan spell.

Rather than continuing to bounce between clubs, Rak-Sakyi could benefit enormously from returning to an environment where he already knows he can perform. Charlton's familiarity with his qualities, combined with regular starts and the backing of the supporters, could give him the platform to rediscover that confidence.

At 23, another spell in familiar surroundings might be exactly what he needs to kick-start his career having not quite put it together at Championship level up to this point. A permanent switch appears to be the best move for all parties involved, too.
