Charlton Athletic must ensure they make the most of the January transfer window as they prepare to battle against relegation from the Championship during the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Addicks have struggled with injuries over the course of the season so far, and after Amari'i Bell and Tyreece Campbell were forced off against Chelsea, their list of absentees that already included Matty Godden, Kayne Ramsay, Reece Burke, Josh Edwards and Onel Hernandez may well have been extended.

Therefore, the arrivals of Lyndon Dykes from Birmingham City and Harry Clarke on loan from Ipswich Town will have given Nathan Jones a welcome boost, while there is hope that the players who have been in the treatment room will be given the all clear sooner rather than later.

Charlton will surely make further additions before the end of the January transfer window, with a new left-wing back undoubtedly being high on the list of priorities, so with extra bodies in the building and players returning to fitness, the Addicks could be in a much stronger position to pick up points consistently by the end of the month.

While the transfer window provides an opportunity for clubs to strengthen their squads, it also comes with the risk that offers may come in for key players. It would be a real blow for Charlton if significant bids came in for the likes of Lloyd Jones, Kayne Ramsay or Conor Coventry.

We asked our Charlton fan pundit, Alfie, whether he is concerned about other clubs showing interest in two of the Addicks' most promising players, Tyreece Campbell and Miles Leaburn, with a couple of weeks remaining in the transfer window.

FLW's Addicks fan pundit, Alfie, made it clear that he would not be bothered if Campbell and Leaburn were sold this month.

"I don't worry about it, I actually welcome it," Alfie said.

"I like Tyreece Campbell, I like Miles Leaburn, but I am skeptical of how high their ceiling is. There is part of me that thinks we might have reached it with both of them, and that is in the most respectful way possible.

"Neither of them are particularly clinical. Both of them can be quite one dimensional. I think they play their hearts out, and they love Charlton, but I think 'could we do better?'

"I think the thing is that Nathan Jones massively disagrees. I think Nathan Jones loves both of them and thinks they are great, and thinks they can progress loads. He has got a track record of doing that with players, so I could be massively wrong.

"If I found out tomorrow that a club had put in a £2 million bid for either of them, or both, I would be pretty happy with that, considering they are academy players, so it would be strictly profit."

Tyreece Campbell, Miles Leaburn exits at Charlton Athletic could be unlikely

While Alfie may not appreciate Campbell or Leaburn in a Charlton shirt, it seems highly unlikely that Nathan Jones will want to see two of his most exciting young players leave this month.

Campbell has been a regular feature in the Championship this season, and has deputised at left wing-back on several occasions in the absence of Josh Edwards, despite naturally being an attacking player.

The Jamaica international is one of the only players in Jones' squad who has the pace and directness to really concern defences individually, and while his end product has room for improvement, there is much more chance that he will be offered a new contract rather than being sold anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Leaburn has also featured regularly in the Championship this term, and while he has only scored a few goals in all competitions, the arrival of another physical striker in Dykes should mean he does not need to play 90 minutes as often.

That could help his performances improve further, as he impressed against Chelsea and has undoubtedly been making more of an impact in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old signed a new contract earlier this season, so there is little reason why he would not continue his development under Jones at The Valley.
