Chavarria calls Chelsea transfer a ‘dream’ come true

Pep Chavarria has called the chance to sign for Chelsea a ‘dream’ come true after completing his move to the club.

The left-back has signed for Chelsea from Rayo Vallecano for a fee of around £16.3m and becomes the latest addition of Xabi Alonso’s first summer in charge.

Chavarria arrives as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who departed Chelsea to join Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window.

The defender impressed as Rayo Vallecano narrowly missed out on European qualification last season and said he is now relishing the chance to represent ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’.

“I’m so excited to get started,” the 28-year-old said to chelseafc.com

“This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.

“There are a lot of people who have helped me get to this moment and I have to thank my family. They have always supported me and today is only possible because of them.”
