Moises Caicedo scored a stunning third in a comfortable win on Saturday afternoon, giving Xabi Alonso’s side an encouraging boost ahead of the new season.

It has a fairly turgid first half, which saw Milan arguably start the stronger before Chelsea settled in the game.

Joao Pedro was at the heart of Chelsea’s threat, so it was no surprise when he broke the deadlock when heading home from a corner to give his side a deserved lead in first-half stoppage time

Chelsea started the second half how they end the first as Joao Pedro then doubled the advantage inside a minute of the result, sweeping home Pedro Neto’s free-kick delivery from close range

Milan had made eight changes at half-time, as Alonso kept faith with the players who started in the 30C heat, and struggled to organise themselves.

Minutes later, Caicedo produced a spectacular strike to make it 3–0, volleying home from the edge of the area when found from a corner.

From there, Chelsea managed the game professionally. Milan saw more of the ball as the match progressed, but the Blues rarely looked in serious danger of conceding, maintaining their clean sheet until the final whistle.

For Alonso, the result offered plenty of encouragement. Chelsea showed attacking sharpness, energy in midfield and the defensive discipline needed to see out a convincing victory.
