Chelsea have struck a late agreement to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco, with the midfielder undergoing a medical as they race to complete the deal before the deadline.

According to Standard Sport, the clubs have agreed a £47m fee for the Senegal international.

Chelsea accelerated their pursuit today after agreeing to sell Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a £125m fixed fee.

Monaco had rejected two earlier bids from Chelsea, but after Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton collapsed when he failed his medical, they lowered their price to raise funds before the French deadline.

The expectation had been that Chelsea would only move for a replacement if a market opportunity arose. They also explored Manu Kone, but Roma blocked that move. Monaco then accepted Chelsea’s proposal, clearing the way for the switch.

City’s pursuit of Fernandez ran through the summer, with Chelsea turning down £104m, then asking for £135m before accepting a final £125m offer. The deal financed a six-year contract for Camara, which includes an option for a further 12 months.

Camara is expected in London on Wednesday to complete formalities. The move remains subject to final paperwork, after which he would link up with the squad immediately. He has scored six goals in 75 appearances for Monaco since 2024, and Chelsea hope he adapts quickly as they build on their win over Brighton.
