Chelsea and Atlético Madrid set to complete £35m transfer swap for Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion | OneFootball

As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Atlético Madrid are set to complete a swap deal over Samu Omorodion and Conor Gallagher.

The deals are both separate from one another, but will see each side receive similar fees. Atlético will pay a reported €42million (£36m) for Gallagher’s services, whilst Chelsea will sign Omorodion for £35m.

The Spanish striker has already agreed to a seven-year contract at The Blues, and is now set to complete medical tests, as Atlético will make a significant profit on the €6m they signed Omorodion for from Granada last summer.

Still a raw talent, the 6’4″ forward was instantly sent out on loan to Deportivo Alavés, where he scored nine goals and made one assist in 22 La Liga starts – standing out with exceptional pace, power, and attacking instinct that make him a significant threat in a variety of situations.

As for Gallagher, the deal will see this summers’ transfer saga for the England international come to an end. Despite being willing to signing onto a long-term deal with Chelsea, the Cobham academy graduate has turned down multiple contract offers over the summer, with Chelsea unwilling to meet his terms amid Gallagher’s expected ‘squad role’ in Enzo Maresca’s new possession-based system.

This is despite the hard-working midfielder being a pivotal part of his boyhood side’s team last season – accumulating five goals and seven assists in playing more Premier League minutes than any of his teammates under Mauricio Pochettino.

As such, Gallagher would make an excellent addition to Diego Simeone’s side, who have already been heavy spenders in the transfer market thus far. Atlético have already completed €30m-plus deals for for Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad, and Alexander Sørloth from Villarreal respectively, whilst they are also set to seal a €95m deal for Manchester City and Argentina forward Julian Álvarez.

With Atlético unwilling to sell Omorodion until progressing talks further with Álvarez, the deal with City is believed to have been a crucial part in the completion of the swap deal between Los Colchoneros and Chelsea, the latter of which will now in turn look to offload their own strikers.

Having both been on loan in the second half of last season, David Datro Fofana and Armando Broja are both expected to be sold permanently, whilst Chelsea are still undergoing talks with Napoli over separate deals for Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen.
