In a recent post on Substack, journalist Simon Phillips stated that Chelsea are big admirers of Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been mentioned that the Blues are showing interest in signing the Spain international this summer.

Zubimendi’s Important Role At Arsenal

Zubimendi enjoyed a good run of form at the North London club in the previous campaign and served as an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. The Spanish talent played in 38 league matches for the Gunners last season, scoring five goals and picking up one assist in the process.

The 27-year-old is currently one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. Therefore, Chelsea would do well to get him on board later this year.

His current contract at the Emirates Stadium will expire in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for the Blues to land him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Snap Zubimendi Up This Summer?

Zubimendi loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and is a tidy passer as well from midfield. Zubimendi can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has the vision to play some decisive passes inside the opponent’s half.

The Spanish sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team. Zubimendi is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Chelsea.

We can expect Zubimendi to add more quality and depth to Xabi Alonso’s midfield department. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting place at Stamford Bridge in the coming years.

At 27, Zubimendi is entering his prime, which makes him a decent choice for Chelsea to consider in this transfer period. He will also help the Blues get back to challenging for some major honours over the next few years. Therefore, Alonso should consider trying everything in his power to snap Zubimendi up this off-season.
