In a recent report, AS mentioned that Chelsea are showing interest in Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras. It has been claimed that the Blues are keen on bringing the Spanish talent to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.

Carreras’ Impressive Form In La Liga

The 23-year-old enjoyed a good run of form at the Madrid club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the left wing. Carreras appeared in 40 matches for Los Blancos last season, netting a couple of goals and picking up three assists in all competitions.

The Spanish sensation is currently among the best left-backs in La Liga. Hence, it is no wonder that the Blues are hoping to get him on board later this year.

His current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will expire in the summer of 2031, which could make it tough for Chelsea to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Go For Carreras This Summer?

Carreras is a tough-tackling defender, who can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a good passer as well.

The Spanish sensation is a decent crosser of the ball and can engineer some inviting chances for others around him from the left flank. Carreras is primarily a left-back but can also serve as a centre-back or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to get a deal done for him in this summer transfer window.

Carreras would bring more quality and depth to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s defensive department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge next season.

At 23, Carreras will only improve with each year. Hence, he would be a great signing for the Blues to consider in the long run. All in all, Alonso would be wise to go for a left-back with his skill set this off-season.
