Chelsea-bound Dastan Satpayev made history after scoring for Kazakhstan in their 1-1 home draw with Belgium in FIFA World Cup qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Kazakhstan had already missed out on a place in the tournament, but Belgium needed a victory to secure their spot in next year’s finals.

The home side scored in the ninth minute, as Satpayev’s shot beat goalkeeper Matz Sels at the near post.

The 17-year-old has now become the youngest-ever goalscorer in Kazakhstan’s history.

Satpayev also saw an effort blocked before the half-hour mark in what was a rare chance for the hosts, as Belgium dominated possession for most of the first half.

Goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov made several saves to deny Belgium before Hans Vanaken drew them level after the restart, heading in Timothy Castagne’s cross.

Kazakhstan were reduced to 10 men late on when Islam Chesnokov was sent off, but held on to secure a point.

Belgium now have to win Liechtenstein at home on Tuesday to secure qualification.

Satpayev had earlier broken two records in March. He became the country’s youngest debutant when he featured in a friendly match against Curacao.

Three days later, he became the youngest Kazakhstan player to feature in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, after coming in as a substitute in their 3-1 loss at Wales.

Satpayev also holds the record as the youngest Kazakhstani to feature in the Champions League, having featured in Kairat Almaty’s 4-1 defeat to Sporting CP.

Chelsea agreed a €4 million deal for the signing of the teenage sensation in February, and he will join them when he turns 18.
