Chelsea have confirmed the departure of youngster Alex Matos, who has joined Sheffield United on a permanent deal.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Oxford United in the Championship, where he made 20 appearances in the league.

He joined the Blues in July 2023 from Norwich City and made his first-team debut as a late substitute in a victory over Fulham in October of that year.

The 20-year-old has also spent time on loan at Huddersfield Town, and joins a Sheffield United side who sit rock bottom of the Championship having lost each of their opening four league games.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Omari Kellyman has joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

The attacking midfielder has endured injury problems since signing for the club and will be hoping to get a much needed run of games at the League One club.

Kellyman joined Chelsea in a £19m deal from Aston Villa in 2024 but has yet to make a first-team appearance.

“I like to make things happen,” he told Cardiff City’s website. “I like to be forward thinking and get on the ball as much as possible. I want to come here, get some goals and assists and help the team,” Kellyman told the club’s website.

“I’ve been watching the recent games and it’s been great to see the exciting players we already have. I’m looking forward to playing with the lads.”

It also follows the departure of former under-18s captain Brodi Hughes last week, who has joined AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan deal.

More departures will likely follow at Chelsea too ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Nicolas Jackson could yet depart for Bayern Munich having had his proposed move last week scrapped.

Axel Disasi also has interest from West Ham United, while Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell will be allowed to leave if deals can be agreed.
