Chelsea have been named among the teams interested in Ibrahima Konate – but a source today has denied that’s the case.

Certain transfers are going to get a lot of attention this summer, and big name free agents get the most talk simply because of the range of speculation that can be had about where they’ll go.

Ibrahima Konate is going to be one of this summer’s hottest names in that department after leaving Liverpool. A number of teams have already been linked, including Chelsea. But a report from TeamTalk today says that the Blues have decided not to pursue the France international.

Ibrahima Konate not coming to Chelsea despite some green flags

Despite the fact that Konate ticks a lot of boxes for Chelsea (he’s a tall, physical, Premier League experienced defender who is older but available on a free), we’re not at all surprised the Blues are reluctant to move for him.

For one, free agents demand huge salaries, and paying him what he wants might damage our carefully constructed salary cap. You also have to bear in mind that Konate had a pretty shocking season individually, putting a lot of teams off.

In other news…

Tyrique George could be on the move this summer, with Everton currently deciding whether to sign him permanently from Chelsea for a fee around £22m.

Robert Sanchez looks more and more likely to go into next season as Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper once again.
