Chelsea now face a fresh injury blow in some breaking news with one midfielder now out for the long term.

Chelsea are obviously built much better now for injuries due to the fact they have recruited so well this summer and over time. They have a decent sized squad and have signed players to make sure they have quality and cover in each position.

One position they didn’t sign in was the goalkeeper area despite coming very close to signing Mike Maignan from AC Milan but seemingly not being able to agree the fee at the last moments.

And the fact that they didn’t sign a new goalkeeper is something that concerns former winger Joe Cole, who believes that Robert Sanchez is still the main question mark around whether Chelsea can win the Champions League or not this season.

But they did address many other areas including the midfield and the attack, and they will be very thankful that they did this right about now as well, with news of this latest injury coming out.

Essugo out for the long-term

New signing Dario Essugo got injured on international duty and then had surgery earlier this week. As a result of all of that, it looks like he’s going to be missing for some time now.

According to The Athletic, Essugo will be ruled out for a minimum of 12 weeks with a thigh injury.

Not a starter but a big blow

Essugo is not a starter for Chelsea just yet but he is the back up for Moises Caicedo, who Chelsea will be wanting to rest through points of the season and perhaps even in their next game against Brentford this Saturday after a busy international break.
