Enzo Fernandez has frustrated Chelsea by pushing for a move in this window – and also by ignoring how they protected him.

Kieran Gill’s piece for the Daily Mail today looks at the chaos around Enzo Fernandez.
He and other writers have clearly been briefed by figures at Chelsea, who are apparently suffering a “feeling of frustration” at how their vice captain has pretty openly flirting with leaving the club in the last couple of weeks. Part of their annoyance seems to be because they think he owes them one.
Fernandez was in hot water in the summer of 2024 when he was among the Argentina players filmed signing a racist song. That clip was called “uninhibited racism” by his own teammate, Wesley Fofana.
“Chelsea protected their player after that controversial saga,” Gill writes.
“Fernandez wasn’t put up for any of their pre-match press conferences in the Conference League that campaign, nor did we get to speak with him in the mixed zone after games, just in case we asked him about that chant.”
We’re not sure they should be so proud of their actions in protecting a player who had been racist. They’re in no position to clutch pearls now. What’s that old tale about a scorpion and a frog?
Even if Chelsea do want to sell Enzo, they may find it difficult. Real Madrid certainly aren’t keen to pay the sort of money we would want for him.
Chelsea’s struggles are as bad off the pitch as on the pitch. They’re losing money at a crazy rate.
