Chelsea have plenty of options in attack at the moment now that Cole Palmer is back, and there’s a question every game about who Enzo Maresca will pick.

At times the Italian coach has favoured Alejandro Garnacho, but at other times the Argentine has been left out when we expected him to start. He’s still working his way into the coach’s plans.

Garnacho stats show his strengths

Ask Blues fans what they think the winger’s strengths are and they’d probably say two things – his intensity and pressing, and his cutbacks. When he hits the byline, he’s always able to pull a nice ball back into the box for his teammates to hit.

The stats reflect that – in terms of expected assists per 90, Garnacho is third in the league. That shows he’s putting the ball on a plate for onrushing colleagues, who perhaps aren’t putting away as many chances as they should. Both his two Premier League assists came against Wolves last month – the first a cross to the far post after he checked onto his right foot after beating the defender to the line down the left; the second a classic Garnacho pullback across the box for Pedro Neto.

Hopefully as the season goes on he can get more rewards for his good work.
