Chelsea have ruled out signing a new goalkeeper or bolstering their defensive options in January despite their injury woes.

According to Sky Sports chief Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea have decided to continue their season without bringing in reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Chelsea are convinced that they have enough options in both positions to get through the campaign.

Robert Sanchez has already established himself as Chelsea’s first-choice option between the sticks, with Filip Jorgensen playing second fiddle.

Chelsea are also keeping track of highly rated Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders, who is thriving on his loan spell at sister-club RC Strasbourg.

Sanchez’s recent performances have justified Chelsea’s trust in his ability. Aside from a moment of madness that got him sent off against Manchester United, Sanchez has reduced the errors in his game.

He was the best goalkeeper at the Club World Cup and has improved consistently since then.

The same cannot be said about Jorgensen, who looked far from convincing against United and Lincoln City in the EFL Cup, but he’s still highly rated within the club.

Chelsea reportedly fended off interest from a number of high-profile clubs when they paid £20 million to bring him in from La Liga side Villarreal.

Meanwhile, Penders has caught the eye at Strasbourg. He has played a key role in their fast start to the season, helping them to third place in Ligue 1 with three clean sheets in six games.

The story is much the same for the defence. Chelsea have depth in defence, with Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Josh Acheampong all available for selection.

Levi Colwill is expected to return from injury later this season, while Jorrel Hato and captain Reece James can provide cover if necessary.

Half of Chelsea’s defensive roster is injury-prone, but the Blues see no need to bolster their options any further, with Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino expected to return after their loan spells.
