Chelsea took an important step forward with the sale of Renato Veiga to Villareal this week, clearing another squad player from the books.
They’re not done yet however: there are still a few big ticket items on the agenda. In defence, Axel Disasi is one of the final pieces which still needs to fall into place.

There’s been precious little in terms of concrete rumours about his sale, but it seems like now we’re into the final weeks of the window things will get into gear. CaughtOffside have heard from their sources that three Premier League clubs are interested.
There was quite a lot of chatter about Bournemouth being one of them a few days ago, so we’d include them. Wolves are another one who are named, with a source saying:
“Talks with Chelsea have already begun… Wolves are exploring creative solutions such as performance-based bonuses to complete the deal without stretching their budget.”
Newcastle have been named too, as have Napoli and “some Ligue 1 clubs,” although we doubt they’d be able to afford Disasi at the prices Chelsea want.
Chelsea are apparently looking for a fee of around £30m for the defender, who cost them closer to £40m. Chelsea have hit €250m in terms of sales now, and it looks like they could go a fair bit further, with Disasi and a number of other still up for sale.
Now 27, Disasi never quite looked at the level we were hoping for at Chelsea, but he could certainly improve a number of teams lower down the Premier League. It’s just a question of who takes the risk, and at what price.
