Blues set to tie down Ecuador international in boost amid grim spell

In a move that coincides with the Ecuadorean’s move to the major CAA Base agency, Caicedo has agreed terms to a new deal and Standard Sport understands the completion of the new contract is now a formality.

It comes a month after captain Reece James committed his long-term future to Chelsea in another deal that was seen as a huge success by the club internally.

Caicedo has been a near-ever-present since his £115million move from Brighton back in August 2023.

This new deal will run to 2033 and will improve Caicedo’s wages, keeping him towards the top end of Chelsea’s high earners.

Caicedo is valued by Chelsea as one of their most important players and his renewed commitment long-term following a run of five defeats from six games in all competitions is a welcome relief for the club.

Head coach Liam Rosenior hinted that there would be further key players beyond James committing their futures to Chelsea when asked earlier month to clarify what he meant by saying players’ commitment to the club should be judged by “actions, you’ll see”.

Rosenior was speaking after both Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella gave interviews during the March international break casting doubt over their futures.

Fernandez, in various interviews, refused to say whether he expected to play at Chelsea next season and said repeatedly that he hoped to move to Madrid, while Cucurella questioned the club’s youth-focused, high-turnover transfer strategy.
