Chelsea are close to agreeing a new long-term contract for Shumaira Mheuka, according to The Standard.

The 18-year-old striker is expected to commit his future to the club before heading out on loan for the 2026/27 campaign.

Mheuka currently has a deal that runs until 2027, but the club want to extend his stay as they continue to invest in the next generation of players coming through the academy.

A new contract and a loan move will give Mheuka more time to gain valuable senior experience away from Stamford Bridge before staking a claim in the Chelsea first team.

Several clubs in the English Football League, as well as teams from across Europe, are already showing interest in Mheuka.

Chelsea believe regular first-team football will be an important step in his development after an outstanding season at academy level.

Mheuka had a remarkable 2025/26 campaign with Chelsea’s Under-21 side, finishing as the Premier League 2 Player of the Season.

He scored 17 goals in 17 league appearances, leading the Blues to the Premier League 2 title.

He also scored five goals in six UEFA Youth League games, further bolstering his reputation as one of the most exciting prospects in the club.

Mheuka’s impressive performances have already earned him a couple of opportunities with Chelsea’s senior squad.

Since making his first-team debut against Astana in the UEFA Conference League in December 2024, Mheuka has featured nine times for the Blues as he continues to gain experience in senior football.

The striker has also made his mark on the international stage with England’s youth teams.

He has scored 16 goals in 23 appearances for the Under-19 side, cementing his reputation as one of the best young strikers in the country.

Mheuka began his football journey in Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy at the age of nine before making the switch to Chelsea when he was 15.
