Chelsea remain keen on Alex Scott as Bournemouth resist transfer pressure

Chelsea’s interest in Alex Scott appears to be very real, and the situation has the feel of a move that may develop more seriously in the summer rather than now. According to Telegraph, Bournemouth have been clear that they do not want to sell the midfielder in the January window, yet that stance has not cooled attention from Stamford Bridge.

There is a wider market forming around Scott too. Liverpool and Arsenal are both credited with interest, which is significant given his age, profile and room for development. Liverpool’s angle is especially notable because Andoni Iraola, now at Anfield, previously worked with Scott at Bournemouth and knows exactly what he would be buying. Chelsea, though, have been monitoring this type of opportunity closely, particularly when a player is approaching a contract point that can shift the balance of power.

By the end of the campaign, Scott will have only one year left on his deal. Bournemouth have tried to secure fresh terms, but there has been no breakthrough and both sides are now concentrating on football. That does not force a sale, but it does create a landscape in which suitors will sense possibility.

Alex Scott transfer race gathers pace

Scott’s growing reputation has been strengthened further on the international stage. He completed 70 minutes alongside Man City midfielder Elliot Anderson against Croatia and is pushing for his third England cap, potentially his first at Wembley against the Czech Republic. Their understanding has already been proven after helping England Under-21s win the European Championship last year.

For England, the timing is helpful. Declan Rice’s withdrawal has opened space for others, and Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged Scott’s emergence in emphatic terms. He said: “Of course and he does, we need performances like this. This is just the nature of it and we will not survive on two central midfielders. The more the better and it’s always about the guys who are in camp.

“Declan knows about his importance and he’s one of the very best midfielders in Europe. Nothing will change that. But it’s exactly what we need. We need more, more, more, more variety. We need more, more, more options. And it’s always then, in the end, it’s always about the guys who are in camp. And Alex was at the highest level.”

That endorsement matters. Clubs already liked Scott, but England recognition can accelerate transfer planning. Chelsea’s recruitment team will surely have noticed another composed, intelligent display from a player who looks increasingly ready for a major next step.

Our View

From a Chelsea supporter’s perspective, this is exactly the sort of report that makes sense. Alex Scott looks like a player on the rise, technically secure, tactically smart and comfortable in high-tempo matches. Chelsea have invested heavily in youth and potential, and he fits that model naturally.

There is also a practical football argument for it. Chelsea need midfielders who can receive under pressure, progress play and adapt across different roles. Scott seems capable of doing all three. He is not arriving with the burden of being a finished superstar, but he has the profile of someone who can grow into a major Premier League figure over time.

The obvious concern is competition. When Liverpool and Arsenal are watching, prices rise and deals become harder. Bournemouth are also under no obligation to rush. If they hold firm until summer, they may feel they can create a proper auction.

Still, Chelsea should be in that conversation. If the club genuinely believe Scott can become a top-level midfielder, then this is the stage to move decisively. Waiting too long is how these situations turn into regret. Supporters will want proven quality as well, but there is room for both approaches. In Scott, Chelsea would be targeting a player with pedigree, Premier League readiness and significant upside. That combination is hard to ignore.
