Chelsea’s deal to move Alejandro Garnacho to Aston Villa is already going badly wrong, with the winger not playing a minute last night.

Every Chelsea fan’s worst fear is coming true – the deal to take Alejandro Garnacho to Aston Villa is falling apart.

It was set up as a loan deal with “easily achievable” targets that trigger a mandatory option to make it a permanent deal. It was sold as effectively just a way of delaying the payment until next summer.

But so far, no target (no matter how easily achievable) looks like it’s going to be enough for Garnacho. He’s played just 31 minutes for Villa so far, despite multiple opportunities in Carabao Cup and in the Champions League as well as Premier League action.

Lat night he sat through an entire cup game without getting a runout even as a sub.

It’s not clear what targets will trigger the move – appearances, starts, Premier League starts, European qualification. It could be anything. But whatever it is, right now it looks like the £43m option won’t be activated, and Chelsea will have the Argentine back on their books a year from now.

In other news…

Estevao has been linked with moves away from Chelsea after a lack of starts early in the season – but there’s no truth to that according to most sources.

Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their Chelsea shares to Clearlake, allowing the organisation to complete its control of the club.
