Chelsea not keen on Diego Moreira, Roma gain hope

Serie A side Roma have missed out on a move for Mason Greenwood but are in the hunt for another attacking signing. This could come in the form of Strasbourg’s Diego Moreira, who is playing for Belgium at the World Cup.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that initially, the Giallorossi weren’t as optimistic about a deal. Chelsea have a buyback clause in the attacker’s contract, even if the exact details of that are unknown. Roma ascertained that when they spoke to Strasbourg and also understood that his valuation is currently at €40 million.

Tony D’Amico will attempt to reduce that valuation and a move will wait until Belgium get knocked out of the World Cup.

But there is more positive. Chelsea and Roma held brief talks for Alejandro Garnacho after the Italian side spoke to Strasbourg for Moreira. During discussions with the Blues, Roma were informed that Chelsea aren’t interested in the Belgium man and won’t interfere in their move.

This is driving Roma’s move ahead, with the wait for the World Cup to end ongoing.

Move for rising star makes sense

Moreira’s profile is clearly going up and the World Cup will only help in that. Gian Piero Gasperini loves players of that ilk and he brings more out of their skillset too.

Joining Roma would be a sensible decision for the 21-year-old, who needs to focus on his development before making the biggest leap of his career.
