Chelsea player’s continued thoughtless actions mirror his manager’s ill-discipline

We’ve had some pretty thick players at Chelsea over the years, but recent times have seen some record breakers.

Nicolas Jackson’s series of clownish actions over the last few years infuriated us multiple times, and now it seems Moises Caicedo has taken up his mantle as a key player who does really well then lets himself down with a moment of madness now and again.

At the end of December he picked up an insane red card for a nasty tackle against Arsenal at the worst possible moment, reducing his team to ten men at home when they had a great chance to beat the league leaders and draw level on points with them.

That was pretty bad, but he somehow topped that last week in the Carabao Cup quarter final. Just before half time, the midfielder decided to sarcastically applaud the referee for a decision, picking up a totally unnecessary yellow card. That was his second in the competition, meaning he’s now banned for the first leg of the semi final against – you guessed it – Arsenal.

Maresca needs to learn before teaching his players

Bear in mind that Caicedo was likely only playing in that game because his ban from the Arsenal card had ruled him out of the 3 preceding league games and you start to get the picture of how thick it really was.

The fact that it’s two legs means we should be able to cope, but it’s still a huge blow. There continues to be major issues with discipline in the team, and Enzo Maresca is not helping with his own lack of control. The manager is about to serve his second ban of the season when we face Aston Villa this weekend after picking up another yellow of his own in last week’s game against Newcastle.
