Chelsea have sounded out an interest in Bayern Munich talent Mathys Tel, and both clubs could be involved in a sensational swap deal as the Bavarians are also keen on Christopher Nkunku.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues have reached out to Bayern to inquire about a possible deal for the ‘extraordinary‘ 19-year-old forward.

Tel has struggled to establish himself at Bayern since completing a £25 million move from French side Stade Rennais in the summer of 2022.

Bayern are not pushing for a sale, and neither is the Frenchman, but he could be a means to an end as the Bundesliga leaders push to sign Nkunku.

Chelsea are looking to reinforce their attacking options and Tel fits their search criteria as a forward who is comfortable as a striker or out wide.

Meanwhile, Nkunku is not an out-and-out striker but has been forced to play back-up to Nicolas Jackson, while Cole Palmer keeps him out of his preferred position as a 10.

Despite his situation, the France international has netted 13 times and provided four assists in 28 games, although most of his goals have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

So far, Nkunku hasn’t told manager Enzo Maresca he wants to leave, but rumour has it the ex-RB Leipzig star is unsettled and has already been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern have reached a full agreement with Nkunku on a long-term contract, and the 27-year-old wants the move immediately.

Bayern could use Tel as a makeweight, and Chelsea will be open to a potential swap deal that benefits all parties involved.

Tel’s desire to remain at the Allianz Arena could be the only stumbling block.

The teenager has told Bayern manager Vincent Kompany that he wants to succeed at the club despite struggling for playing time.

Tel has started just twice in seven Bundesliga appearances this season and is yet to open his goalscoring account across all competitions.
