Chelsea progressing move for Honest Ahanor and why a deal would be great | OneFootball

Chelsea have been interested in a move for Atalanta talent Honest Ahanor and their move for the Serie A talent is now quickly progressing.

The Blues made initial contact with La Dea over a move and were keen on the idea of signing him.

Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that progress is being made to sign the teenager, with the London club having spoken to Atalanta for Marco Palestra already this summer. They are taking advantage of this relationship and making in-roads for Ahanor too.

The two clubs are continuing discussions and the move can now cost Chelsea over €40 million.

This is lesser than what was expected, as many Bergamo outlets noted Atalanta could demand over €50 million.

Regardless, Ahanor could be a very good move for Chelsea and and even for the player himself. The teenager is a versatile left-sided defender who can play as a left-back and also as a left centre-back – as evident at Atalanta. 

Xabi Alonso has regularly shown an inclination towards players of this ilk, as his system usually demands dynamism. Ahanor can operate in different positions in different phases and this makes him a natural fit for the Spaniard.
