Chelsea’s January is coming to a close without any major additions – although the Blues are still being linked with plenty of players.

Just yesterday, a new rumour bubbled up, involving Yaimar Medina of Racing Genk and the Blues – or BlueCo, at least. After impressing since his move to Europe a year ago, the South American is starting to attract more and more attention from abroad.

The piece from noted Belgian football news source HLN noted that, despite Racing Genk’s struggles on the pitch, they’re still producing and signing great young players.

They claim that Chelsea scouts were present in Limburg on Sunday to see the Genk game against Cercle Brugges, where Ecuador international Medina was playing.

The Blues apparently want to sign up the 21 year old and send him to Strasbourg. It’s not clear if they’d sign and loan him, which would take up a foreign loan slot. It would make more sense to just fund a Strasbourg move. But our sporting directors’ moves in this are often pretty opaque in any case.

Medina moved from Independiente Del Valle (Moises Caicedo’s old club) in January 2025 and has played 26 games for Genk this season after establishing himself as first choice midfielder.

In other news…

Pedro Neto’s place as a regular starter must be under threat now – he had a really ineffective game on Sunday and continues to struggle to show why he should be playing ahead of other options. His duel stats made for ugly reading.

N’Golo Kante set some insane records for Chelsea in his time at the club, and that makes it all the more impressive that Andrey Santos broke one of them playing for the Blues at the weekend.
