Chelsea and Australia star Sam Kerr has opened up on motherhood after she and her fiancee, Kristie Mewis, welcomed a baby boy earlier this year.
The couple announced they were expecting a child in November last year, with Mewis carrying the baby.
Kerr and Mewis welcomed their son, Jagger Mewis-Kerr, on May 8th.
“Our little man is here,” they wrote in an Instagram post announcing his arrival.
Kerr recently marked her return to football from a knee injury with her 100th goal for Chelsea.
Speaking in an interview with her Chelsea teammate Erin Cuthbert on the We Are Chelsea podcast, the footballer opened up and spoke about life as a new mum.
In her chat with Erin Cuthbert, Chelsea star Sam Kerr says motherhood ‘hasn’t really set in’.
She said: “Me and Kristie always laugh, like sometimes he’s lying on the bed and we’re laughing because we’re like, ‘Wait, he’s ours’.
“I always say to her, ‘It’s so weird that that’s the person that we were going to visit when you had your scans and like he’s with us forever now’, like we still haven’t wrapped our heads around it, maybe we never will, but yeah, it seems wild.”
Kerr added: “I think he’s just at a cool stage now where when I come home, he’s so excited to see me. It’s just a nice feeling.
“It’s like having a dog times 100. That’s the way I would explain it to people. It’s 100 times harder and it’s 100 times better. So like people that love your dog, you love your baby way more, but it’s like, real hard.
“Like, you can’t just put your baby out in the backyard and be like, ‘Entertain yourself for halfa’.”
Asked what career she would like to see Jagger do in the future, she added: “I hope he gets into being a scientist or a surgeon – make heaps of money.”
Sam Kerr made a stunning return to football with Chelsea after scoring her 100th goal for the club last week.
She had been out of action for 20 months after she ruptured her ACL while on a training camp with the Blues in Morocco.
Chelsea teammate Hannah Hampton has since said she was pleased to see Kerr return to action.
The England international said: “It’s about time she starts annoying opposition goalkeepers.
“She does it to me in training all the time, and let’s be honest, she definitely makes sure I know about it afterwards.”
Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis have been together since 2021 and got engaged in September 2023.
Mewis is also a footballer, who most recently played for West Ham in the Women’s Super League. She joined the Hammers in December 2023 from Gotham FC and made four appearances before announcing she was expecting her first child with Kerr last November.
The 34-year-old has won 53 caps for the USA and is currently without a team after leaving the Hammers at the end of June.
