Frank Leboeuf believes Christopher Nkunku needs to leave Chelsea this summer and has urged the club to cut their losses.

Nkunku arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £52m with a lot of excitement surrounding the signing.

However, despite showing some glimpses of his ability the move to Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of a disaster for the France International.

Leboeuf urges Chelsea and Nkunku to cut ties this summer

The 27-year-old has been plagued by injury issues during his time in west London and was limited to just 14 appearances last season.

Nkunku has featured more regularly this season, and is the club’s joint top scorer with Cole Palmer on 14 goals, although just three of those have come in the Premier League.

The attacker has been heavily criticised for his performances, and it’s clear he just doesn’t suit Enzo Maresca’s system.

Nkunku was linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich in January, whilst it’s been reported the Blues could sell him for just £35m this summer.

Lebouef has had his say on Nkunku and believes he needs to leave this summer, whilst he also stated it’s just never worked for the Frenchman at Chelsea.

“I think they need to cut their losses and go their separate ways,” he said as quoted by Metro.

“It’s best for the club but also the future of the player. Careers are pretty short so you have to react quickly if it doesn’t work.

“And it can happen like this, sometimes the chemistry doesn’t work. I was very happy to see him come to Chelsea, but it’s never worked.

“He’s never been able to settle down, maybe because the position he’s been offered wasn’t the right one.

“It’s never worked for him but he’s still a good player. He will have to rebound but we’ve seen that before with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah when they left.”
