Chelsea striker Marc Guiu will face FC Barcelona for the first time on Tuesday, 25 November, in the UEFA Champions League match at Stamford Bridge.

It will be a momentous occasion for the young forward, who will come face-to-face with his boyhood club for the first time ever.

Guiu looking forward to Barcelona clash

Speaking in an interview on Catalunya Radio, Guiu shared his feelings ahead of what will be a very special match for him following his departure from Barcelona in the summer of 2024.

“The match against Barça will be the match of my life. It will be very special,” said Guiu.

“I keep in touch with Barça players, with some, yes. Mostly with Pau Cubarsi. On the day of the match, I will say something to him to try to make him nervous,” added the former La Masia graduate.

The striker, who made his senior debut for Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez, went on to claim that he would not celebrate if he were to score against his boyhood club at Stamford Bridge.

“If I score against Barça… you have to respect the clubs where you have played. If I score against Barça, the joy will be immense, but I think I will not celebrate it,” said Guiu.

The Chelsea striker sees the Stamford Bridge match as very open, as he said: “Barça and Chelsea are two incredible teams. We are in a very good moment.”

“Both teams are so good that I think it will be a very even match, and the details will decide it. I think we arrive a little better than Barça, but they are very good.”

Admiration for Lamine Yamal

Guiu played alongside Lamine Yamal in the Barcelona youth academy and the first team, and he is convinced that the 18-year-old wonderkid, dealing with pubalgia, will soon regain his best form.

“Lamine is an incredible player. Any player would like to be like him. He has worked hard. He deserves everything that happens to him. When he recovers from the pubalgia, he will fly again,” said Guiu.

Continuing, the Chelsea starlet added: “In youth football, he was also flying and playing against people four years older than him. Lamine has always done what he wanted with everyone, with all the rivals. From a very young age, he did what he wanted.”

On his Barcelona exit

Guiu also reflected on the circumstances of his departure from Barcelona a year and a half ago.

“I’m playing hard at Chelsea and I think I’m making the most of it. When I left Barça, at that time, it was the best option, to leave. I’m at Chelsea, for me, right now, the best club in the world,” said Guiu.

Continuing, the Spaniard reflected on how Barcelona wanted him to stay, but manager Hansi Flick never really spoke with him.

“Barça wanted me to stay. Chelsea’s project was not comparable. Barça gave me the first team but not much more and Chelsea’s project was very good. I didn’t get to speak to Flick before leaving. I would have liked it. I owe what I am to Xavi,” he concluded.
