Sevilla’s planned move for Patrik Mercado, seen as a headline target for Antonio Cordón, has been thrown into doubt by Premier League interest.

TEAMtalk reports that Chelsea want to sign the Independiente del Valle talent, with Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham, Sporting Braga, Wolfsburg, Vasco da Gama and Palmeiras also monitoring him.

Sevilla have tracked the Ecuadorian for a lengthy period and were convinced by his age profile, room for growth and ability to adapt to different roles. His versatility and reading of space fit the push to build a more dynamic squad.

An agreement for January had been lined up, but LaLiga’s salary limit and all non‑EU slots being filled prevented registration. With a tight budget, the club prioritised Neal Maupay, so plans shifted towards the summer window.

Sevilla know moving early is essential, and any delay could raise the price and complicate a deal deemed central to the new project. If nothing changes, Mercado is expected to become their second addition for next season, with Juan Iglesias set to arrive from Getafe.
