Liam Rosenior is the new Chelsea manager, and we can expect some changes as he settles in. But one thing won’t change – Trevoh Chalobah will remain a key player.

A year after desperation forced us to recall him from Crystal Palace, the defender has once again shown his quality. Jacob Steinberg’s piece for the Guardian today is all about Chalobah and how Chelsea’s crazy spending has ended up bringing them nothing better than what they already had:
“Twelve months on [from the recall], it seems absurd that Chelsea ever gave serious consideration to selling Chalobah,” Steinberg writes.
“He ended up thriving under Enzo Maresca, who put great store in defenders capable of playing out from the back. Chalobah was outstanding against PSG last summer, and his revival showed Chelsea that spending on shiny new toys does not always represent the best path to happiness.”
That pretty much sums it up, and repeats what we (and many other) Chelsea fans have been saying for a long time. The determination of the sporting directors to move on the players we produce – perhaps for the pure profit generated for FFP, perhaps because of the shiny new toy syndrome, and perhaps because it gives them more of a chance to show off their skills rather than those of the academy coaches – is absolutely toxic to the club. It frustrates fans, and is ultimately not even helping on the pitch either.
Ahead of the game today, John Terry was speaking about his old team and what he wanted to see from them under new coach Liam Rosenior as the manager gets more and more time on the training ground with the group.
Robert Sanchez will be playing today, and ahead of the game, his manager Liam Rosenior was full of praise for him. They even once shared a pitch together, if you didn’t know…
