Chelsea’s most linked target this month has been Jeremy Jacquet, a 20 year old defender. This has frustrated fans, who are tired of seeing their club only target very young players. Jamie Carragher has spoken about this in the build up to today’s game against Crystal Palace.

“If I was a Chelsea fan [this model]would bother me. Because the numbers tell you, and there are indicators in lots of different ways about how to go about winning a Premier League… If you continually buy young players, they’re not all going to mature at exactly the same time, they’re not all going to get to where you want to get to. That’s not going to happen,” Carragher explained, speaking in reference to the way the Blues were targeting yet another young player.
“The reason they chop and change centre-backs so often is that they’ve got so many of them. But they’re all the same level. There’s no real standout. And that defender [Jacquet] – as we both know – will come in will show great potential, great pedigree but he’ll make mistakes because he’s young, and that’s what young defenders do.
“So in terms of bringing a centre back in, that’s definitely an area where they have to improve… if they don’t change, I don’t see why anyone outside Chelsea would be worried about them winning a league title in the next year or two.”

Cole Palmer is not in the squad today, and of course that means major questions about his future as the persistent rumours about his unhappiness at Chelsea continue to grow.
Chelsea’s team news for today’s game is out, and Palmer isn’t in the side. He’s not been in great form of late anyway – it will be very interesting to see how the team cope without him.
