Fermin Lopez was a major transfer target for Chelsea during the summer transfer window, with the Blues making great efforts to lure the young midfielder away from FC Barcelona.

In the end, however, the La Masia graduate decided to stay put at the club, snubbing the Premier League heavyweights’ overtures.

Barça, for their part, also had no intention of parting ways with the 22-year-old Spaniard, who has become a key player for Hansi Flick.

Chelsea will not attempt January move for Fermin

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano on DAZN, while Chelsea admire Fermin Lopez, and have done so for long, an attempt to sign him in the ongoing January window is unlikely.

The Blues are undergoing some changes, having brought in a new manager in Liam Rosenior to replace Enzo Maresca. So, there is a possibility of some transfers taking place at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks.

However, Fermin is not on the agenda for the Premier League giants for now, and they are unlikely to make a transfer of that magnitude this month.

Moreover, the possibility of Barcelona opting to part ways with the Spanish international is very much off the table, considering how pivotal he has become to Hansi Flick’s setup.

Fermin was one of the stars of the show earlier this week as Barcelona romped home to a 5-0 win over Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal. In 20 matches, he has eight goals and eight assists each across all competitions.

However, reports in England have suggested that Chelsea could consider reviving their interest in Fermin in the summer later this year, as part of a massive €150 million splurge.
