Chelsea moved into fourth place in the Premier League table despite being held to a draw by Burnley on Saturday. Joao Pedro continued his red-hot form in front of goal by breaking the deadlock as early as the fourth minute, sliding the ball home after being picked out by Pedro Neto in the six-yard box.
The result was placed in doubt when Wesley Fofana was sent-off in the second half for a poor tackle on James Ward-Prowse. Then in stoppage time, Ward-Prowse’s corner was headed home by Zian Flemming to earn a point for Burnley in their bid to avoid relegation back to the Championship.
With Aston Villa also dropping points at home to Leeds United, Chelsea have missed the chance to close the gap on third place and will drop out of the top five altogether if Liverpool and Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest and Everton respectively before this matchweek from the Premier League is completed.
