Blues’ slump continues with another Premier League defeat

Chelsea’s hopes of Champions League qualification are hanging by a thread after suffering a 1-0 loss at home to Manchester United. Matheus Cunha broke the deadlock, against the run of play, late in the first half as he smashed the ball home to finish off a fine solo run from Man United captain Bruno Fernandes. That turned out to be the only goal of the game on Saturday night.

Chelsea did improve after the break, hitting the woodwork twice through Liam Delap and Wesley Fofana but could not find that elusive goal to avoid crashing to a fourth Premier League defeat in a row. The Blues are now ten points behind Man Utd in the table, and remain four behind Liverpool in fifth but have played a game more.

Man Utd, themselves, have returned to winning ways after two matches without one either side of the international break. The victory was made all the more impressive amid an injury crisis in defence.
