Robin Roefs has really impressed in his debut season, and now has top clubs including Chelsea linked with transfer interest in him.

CaughtOffside have started today with a transfer rumour which we’ve not heard before – but which we can really believe.

They say that the Blues have their eyes on Robin Roefs, the Sunderland goalkeeper who has shown himself to be one of the best stoppers in the league in a really impressive debut campaign.

Chelsea are said to have “intensified their efforts” to bring him to Stamford Bridge – we’re not sure what that means at this stage of the season, but we can certainly see him being on the shortlist.

The question of who the Chelsea goalkeeper will be long term remains a debate. Robert Sanchez’s improved form this season looked to have secured him the role, but a recent wobble has seen him dropped and now the rumours about a new signing are back front and centre again.

Roefs is a perfect age for a young goalkeeper (23) and has kept a superb 8 clean sheets in 28 league appearances for the Black Cats this season. Scouts all over the division are wondering how they didn’t spot him when he was at NEC Nijmegen.

It’s not clear how much he would cost, but given his contract runs until 2030 his club are in a strong position. Chelsea will have to pay big.
