Chelsea’s massive asking price for Pedro Neto has some logic behind it, and it seems to have done its job already.

There have been whispers all summer than Man City want Pedro Neto, and in the last week Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal also started being mentioned.

Fabrizio Romano went as far as to claim that official approaches were being made, and personal terms offered to Neto.

That may all be true, but Chelsea were keeping strong with their £100m asking price. And it seems that’s been enough to scare away any interest. If you’d asked us back in May how much we thought the Blues would accept for the Portugal international, we’d have said £80m, easily, perhaps as low as £70m. So where has the extra £30m come from? TeamTalk explain on their piece on the subject.

Their explanation is simple – Chelsea have put that price tag on Neto because they don’t want to sell him. He’s not one of the true “untouchables” who they won’t entertain offers for, but he’s important enough that only a ridiculous bid would make it worth their while.

Neto is one of the more experienced players in the squad in terms of Premier League games, and potentially has an important role to play as a wing back if Alonso decides to set up that way.

In other news…

It’s not just new players who have come to Chelsea this summer – the Blues also have a very recognisable new coach they’re hoping will add a lot to the team.
