Job Obi Mikel has claimed that the sacking of Enzo Maresca was a mistake that Chelsea will regret, as the coach is “missing” something.

As a podcaster, Jon Obi Mikel is making his money by saying interesting or controversial things, and he’s certainly got a take today.

He’s come in hot with quotes picked up by the Sun where he calls the sacking of Enzo Maresca, and the replacement of the Italian coach with Liam Rosenior a “massive mistake.”

“We took a step forward, and we’ve gone five steps backwards,” Mikel said on his podcast.

“Liam has come in, and he’s won games, but there is absolutely something that is missing. Something is not quite right.”

Rosenior harshly treated by pundit

It all seems a little harsh on Rosenior, frankly. The last two games have seen Chelsea drop points against weak opposition, but that’s hardly different to what was happening under Maresca. Other than that, Rosenior has had good results, and more importantly the mood in the stadium has lifted.

The football was also looking more engaging, at least until Saturday.

This upcoming run of games will tells us a lot more about Rosenior. We face far tougher opposition, and the pressure for results on the players and the coach is only increasing.

We’re not quite sure what the thing that is “missing” that Mikel talks about is – perhaps we’ll find out in the next month.
