Chelsea’s summer signing “not sharp enough” to play at “top level of the Premier League” says pundit

There are a few big questions at Chelsea right now about the build of the squad.
Joao Pedro has found some form up top (at last), but Liam Delap is still struggling as his backup. A few flashes here and there have not translated into anything consistent. Fans are starting to get worried, as we pass the halfway point of the season.

On TalkSport, Gabby Agbonlahor said he thought that Delap had made a career mistake coming to Chelsea:
“I said when he joined Chelsea that I thought he should have gone to a team like Everton,” Agbonlahor said on his radio show.
“He could have developed there for a couple of years and then make the big move to top six side. I think the jump from Ipswich to Chelsea was too much.
“When I look at him as a striker, I like him – he can hold up the ball well, he’s a good finisher, but he just doesn’t look sharp enough for the top level of the Premier League.”
We’re still not writing Delap off just yet – but performances like the one on Tuesday night certainly don’t help. There’s no doubt a stepping stone move would have helped him develop, now we just have to hope Liam Rosenior is able to find a way to get the best out of him.
Cole Palmer is in a real funk right now – you don’t have to watch much of Chelsea to see that. The stats are perhaps even more scary right now.
