Joao Pedro is Chelsea’s player of the month for August, and it’s well deserved.
Two goals and two assists for the big man mark a very bright start to his career in Blue. If that’s what he’s producing now, while the team still look very disjointed and unfamiliar in attack, we can only imagine what we’re going to be seeing later in the year when everything starts to click.

Chelsea have been able to pick up 7 points from 9 so far in the Premier League despite that lack of attacking fluency mainly because their defence has stood up strong. They’ve conceded just once, to a wonder-strike from Lucas Paqueta that nobody could have done anything about (apart from our goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, of course).
The defence has remained strong despite the absence of Levi Colwill through injury, and that’s in large part thanks to Trevoh Chalobah.
WhoScored have Joao Pedro as our best performer of the season so far with a 7.85 rating, but Chalobah is close behind on 7.72.
He’s been excellent, looking comfortable alongside Tosin (who has also been really solid) in the back line. Trevoh has average 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.7 clearances a game. His duel success rate is off the charts, and he’s become a real leader in the squad.
There was a lot of pressure on Chelsea to sign a centre back after Colwill’s injury, but we’ve kept faith in Chalobah, and so far he’s paid us back. He’s Enzo Maresca’s favourite defender right now, and the manager is happy to praise him whenever he is given the chance.
He wasn’t picked for the England squad for this week, which is bizarre, but given him a chance to rest.
