Rayan Cherki scored a last-minute equaliser to set-up a big second leg at Old Trafford after a 2-2 draw in Lyon.

There was plenty of talk going into this game with Nemanja Matic calling André Onana one of the worst Manchester United goalkeepers in modern history.

The Cameroonian didn't cover himself in glory in the first half though as he let Thiago Almada's set-piece delivery that was intended as a cross find its way into the net with 25 minutes gone in the game.

The visitors equalised just before the break though and it was a first ever United goal for French international Leny Yoro in his home country as he headed in from a freekick that Lyon weren't able to clear.

Ruben Amorim's side improved in the second half and thought they had scored the winning goal in the 88th minute. Bruno Fernandes sent in a cross that Joshua Zirkzee – a 63rd minute substitute for the ineffective Ramus Hojlund – headed past Lucas Perri.

That goal looked like it had given United a handy advantage to take into the second leg at Old Trafford. However, there was a late sting in the tale.

With just seconds left to go, Corentin Tolisso had a shot that Onana couldn't hold on to which bounced back nicely for Cherki to finish from close range to make it 2-2.

Overall, Amorim will be mostly happy with his team's away performance in Europe although they should have given themselves a far easier task in the second leg next Thursday.
