Cherries stun Real Sociedad on historic European debut | OneFootball

Bournemouth announced themselves on the European stage with a stunning 2-1 debut Europa League win away at Real Sociedad.

The Cherries, in League Two as recently as 2010, made a flying start under Marco Rose. Just 11 minutes were gone when Adrien Truffert’s delicious cross found Justin Kluivert, who side-footed home. The goal was initially ruled out for offside but a lengthy VAR check overturned the decision.

Brazil winger Rayan doubled the lead inside 20 minutes, heading home from Alex Scott’s superb run and cross. Evanilson then headed against the post as the visitors bossed the first half.

Sociedad improved after the break and pulled one back through Sergio Gomez, whose inswinging cross drifted past Djordje Petrovic into the far corner.

The Basque side pushed hard for an equaliser, but Petrovic produced a string of fine saves, including a stunning late stop to deny Orri Oskarsson.

Ben Gannon-Doak had a chance to wrap it up on the break, yet Bournemouth held firm for a famous victory - the first European win in the club’s history.
